Crave knowledge? Save the internet..

Hello Friends,

If any of you have tried to use Wikipedia today or have investigated why there is a big black box over the Google logo then you are already aware of this. There are two pieces of legislation being considered by congress (H.R. 3261, also known as the Stop Online Piracy Act & Senate Bill 968, also known as the PROTECT IP Act) that if made into law would have several negative effects for the internet as we know it.  Everything I have been able to read about these two pieces of legislation leads me to the conclusion that it would be detrimental to a free and open internet if they were passed.  Please do your own research and make up your own mind but I would ask that you consider taking a quick moment to email your representative and senators and urging them to vote against this legislation.

Send this to your representative:

I want you to know that I strongly oppose H.R. 3261, also known as the Stop Online Piracy Act.  Not only would this bill be ineffective at achieving it's own stated goal but it would also have the detrimental effect of censoring the internet, hindering economic growth, and slowing innovation with regards to online technologies.  I urge you to vote against this bill.

Send this to your two senators (there are two from each state):

I want you to know that I strongly oppose Senate Bill 968, also known as the PROTECT IP Act.  Not only would this bill be ineffective at achieving it's own stated goal but it would also have the detrimental effect of censoring the internet, hindering economic growth, and slowing innovation with regards to online technologies.  I urge you to vote against this bill.
